The Centre for European Studies at Lund University (CFE) regularly awards smaller travel grants to students who would benefit from carrying out field studies in connection with their Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis. The overall theme of the thesis must be related to European affairs, broadly interpreted.

Students enrolled at Lund University, who are planning to write their Bachelor's or Master's theses on topics related to European matters during the spring semester 2025, are eligible to apply for the grants. The thesis must deal with the EU or Europe, European conditions, and/or questions of clear European relevance. It may not deal with phenomena that will be studied exclusively in individual European states, unless explicitly and analytically linked to a broader European relevance. Typically, the grant covers travel costs, and/or a few days of accommodation. Costs for meals are not included.

The application shall include:

  • A short description of the aim of the thesis, including methodology (maximum 1500 words)
  • A short motivation of the need for the grant, including a detailed budget and the total sum applied for by the student (maximum 1000 words)
  • A CV
  • A letter from the supervisor confirming the potential benefits of the trip for the thesis

When selecting among the applications, priority will be given to students who have particularly well-motivated links between their thesis aim, methodology, and stated needs of the field trip.

The grant will be paid out following a successful defence of the thesis. Grantees must submit a cost statement including the original receipts in order for compensation to be paid out. The amount awarded constitutes the maximum sum that can be granted.

Deadline for applications is January 31, 2025. A grant decision will be communicated as soon as possible afterwards.
